When a main water line leak disrupted service to a home in Atlanta’s Lockwood Dr SW neighborhood, Fix & Flow Plumbing was called in to diagnose and repair the problem. What we found was a common but serious issue—an underground fitting that had failed due to improper installation. Our team completed a permanent, code-compliant repair to restore reliable water flow and protect the home from future damage.

Inspection & Diagnosis

Our team inspected the water line at the foundation entry and then excavated the front yard at the area where water had pooled. The source of the leak was traced to a failed connection between the PEX water line and copper pipe. A SharkBite-style push-to-connect fitting had corroded and blown apart underground—an installation method not designed for long-term below-grade use.

Permanent Repair

With homeowner approval, the failed fitting was removed and replaced with code-compliant, heavy-duty rigid fittings designed specifically for underground copper-to-PEX transitions. The line was reassembled with secure connections, pressurized, and tested.

System Testing

The system was flushed through multiple hose spigots to clear debris and confirm proper water flow. All connections were monitored under pressure and confirmed leak-free.

Backfilling Advisory

The homeowner chose to perform their own backfilling. We advised the use of proper bedding (clean fill or sand) and the avoidance of rocks or sharp material in direct contact with the pipe to prevent future damage.

The Result: The home’s main water line has been permanently repaired with durable, code-compliant fittings, restoring reliable service while protecting against future underground failures.
