Repairs Performed
- Ceiling Access: Opened the lower-level ceiling at the stained area to reach the compromised drain and vent stack.
- Cast Iron Removal & Replacement: Removed the deteriorated cast iron tee behind the dishwasher and installed a new vent stack connection to eliminate the damaged section.
- PVC Drain Installation: Installed new PVC drain piping from the lower level up through the subfloor to the kitchen sink. Inside the cabinetry, new PVC drain components were fitted, including a P-trap to the disposal and a Sure-Vent air admittance valve for proper venting.
- Sealing & Cleanup: Old drain penetrations were sealed with styrofoam. A full drain function and leak test confirmed proper operation with no leaks. The dishwasher and access panel were reinstalled, and all work areas were cleaned.
The Result: The failing cast iron piping was replaced with a durable PVC system, restoring full drainage to the kitchen sink and eliminating water intrusion into the lower-level ceiling. The home now has a reliable, code-compliant drain system designed for long-term performance.
